This quantitative and statistical study explores turn order and distribution in conversational multi-party narratives in British and American English. It is argued that Sacks et al.’s dictum that turn order is not previously set does not apply to conversational narrative. Also, turn order in conversational narrative is not locally but globally directed, on the basis of the storytelling activity the conversationalists are engaged in.
