Annotation

As there exist but few studies on face in intercultural settings and face research increasingly pays attention to participant viewpoints, this study examines the gains and losses of face as observed by Chinese government officials in the course of a three-week diplomatic mission to the U.S. Overall face improvement appears the main aim of the visit and is strategically managed. Face is considered a flighty image that can rise and drop sharply, but still persisted over incidents, days and weeks.
