Annotation

Reviewing Gumperz and Wilson's (1971) classic language contact study in the multireligious, multilingual Kupwar border village, this study explores the current impact of religion and regional identity on language choices, particularly amid the newly produced linguistic minority communities. It attests to both accentuated religious separation and increasing linguistic assimilation.
