Annotation

Southern Alberta Mormons do not present as high a raising of /æ/ before g as other Southern Alberta English speakers. Their strong social (church) networks engender a conservative effect. Contrary to many studies exhibiting women as innovators in sociophonetic change, young Mormon women are different in the way of being either more conservative than their counterparts, or innovators of a different pattern.
