A method is offered to determine occurrence, features and functions of pragmatic repetition in conversational exchange. Three functional categories are distinguished: conversational form preservation, content enhancement, and social aim promotion. Findings reinforce the role of repetition in the pragmatics of language, and engender a better comprehension of normal discourse.
