This conversation analytic study explores recipients' other-initiations of repair on the quoted talk in complaint stories in autobiographical interviews. These are often generated or grasped as impeaching the admissability of the represented talk. By dismissing recipient defiance, the tellers demonstrate that they await a more sympathetic attitude from the story receiver.
