This paper examines stylized native-speaker English (NSE) use, which conveys a level of social “cool”, in televised Japanese variety shows, via an inquiry of both oral discourse and textual screen commentaries. It adds to research on stylized language use in a context where the studied language (in casu English) is perceived as a foreign language.
