This article explores Spanish tourists’ multilingual experiences (as information resource for sociolinguistic inquiry on multilingualism) by surveying spontaneously written online travel diaries. It discusses the links between language choice (mother tongue, local languages, and English as lingua franca) and the three interactional maxims of Rapport Management Theory: interactional aims, face care, and sociality rights matters.
