This paper advocates the usage of Language Management Theory in computer mediated communication studies, as this provides a dynamic perspective of the process in which online interaction norms and protocols are being constantly debated, parleyed and applied. It focuses on how non-native speakers discuss their position in English-language online discussion forums, oft applying pre-interaction language management via post disclaimers, like “Excuse my poor English”, to evade possible misreadings and to avert being subjected to native speaker norms.
