Annotation

Using self-assessments and language test scores, this paper explores second-language (L2) skill predictors for immigrants who seldom partake in the host society and have low L2 expertise. Alphabetic resemblances, quotidian interactions with natives in the public sphere, and L2 use at home arise as novel predictors. No links are found between gender, migration incentive, psychological trouble, and self-assessed competence.
