Annotation

This paper discusses factors that define cognate word recognizability in German speakers' reading comprehension in Germanic languages they have not acquired. In text context, the most frequent strategy depends upon an interaction of phonetic similarity and inference; According to subjects' reflections though, the semantic probability plainly overrules intuitions about phonetic similarity.
