Annotation

Nearly a century after Japanese immigration to Hawaii plantations stopped, Japanese no longer constitutes the chief literal communicative vehicle among local Japanese, who increasingly display their Japanese identities symbolically, via the Hawaï local practice of tattooed texts and visual images.
