This paper provides a narrative of the South African University of the Western Cape, from the prism of language duality as co-modality for shaping the institution fully or partly and as a reflection of its co-modalities. For its framing, the narrative draws from language politics and policy, a multilingual landscapes grammar and linguistics' epistemology. Beyond adding to a historiography of university language policies, the narrative affects language policy analysis.
