This paper examines childrens' talk-in-interaction whereby one interlocutor expressly orders another one to utter a particular phrase, whereupon the first interlocutor provides a preshaped response. The debated data disclose a comprehension of preference organization and sequential trajectory exhibited by children of only 2 and 3 years old and that this three-section “say [x]” format has flexible appliance in children's talk-in-interaction.
