Annotation

Family dinnertime conversations are crucial contexts for children to acquire conduct regulation, narrative abilities and world knowledge, and to be socialized into gender differences in language. Mothers in this study spoke more than fathers about conduct and narrative, whilst mothers and fathers talked just as frequently about general knowledge, indicating that differences are organized by topic in theoretically revealing ways. Language use links between parents and children are obvious for mothers and daughters.
