This paper discusses how via insistence a shelter client in caseworker–client interaction seeks a genuine self-attitude by gaining command over the interaction and claiming his role as father and independent individual. It suggests a novel way of talking about client power in institutional talk and accounts for the functions such actions may hold in social work interaction.
