Annotation

Using a (feminist) critical discursive approach, it is argued that Akans tend to present espoused women in specific stereotypical manners via the use of gendered proverbs, the majority of which can be perceived as disrespectful, negative or inferior. Even positive representations often seduce women to play classic stereotyped roles, thus increasing hegemonic masculinity and femininity.
