L. defends an abstract analysis of syntax by characterizing semantic-syntactic structures of Korean, with reference to comparable structures in English. Three areas are investigated: syntax with respect to illocution, modality, and implicature; the phenomenon of reflexivization; and the concepts of causative, passive, and inchoative in grammar.
