This paper examines interactions amidst members of a South Asian Club (SAC) at an American university to elucidate how members negotiate a general Indian-American identity in spite of visible intra-Indian differences. Whereas members of this student club attain proud Indian-American youth identities – trendy, socially mobile, and with cultural attachments to another country – they unconsciously intensify prominent racial structures in the U.S.
