Annotation

This paper explores whether the cultural content of English textbooks employed in Israel, fits the Palestinian Arab English learner. Seven discursive devices are distinguished that serve to raise English learners permeated with Western minded Jewish-Zionist ideology, whilst propagating and maintaining hegemonic ideology. As English textbooks in Israel appear to trivialize the Palestinian Arab minority, its culture and general traditions, they generate a negative learning experience for Arab high school students.
