Annotation

This paper explores the interactional organization of racism via participant production and uptake of formal racial membership categories throughout a corpus of 50+ hours recorded interaction in three U.S. states. It focuses on one participant method for handling “clearly racist” talk: iterating inordinate versions of the awkward utterance to offer chances for repair work.
