Annotation

This paper deabates acoustic qualities and sociopragmatic functions of the distinct Japanese sweet voice, linked to a traditional notion of mature Japanese femininity and allowing the positive use of the grammatical character of Japanese women's language. Voice quality-grammatical feature interplay indicates that conscious control perceptions at various language levels play a key role in social meaning.
