This paper discusses the intricate nature of the collective language shift from Swedish to Ukrainian in the Swedish-ethnic Gammalsvenskby community in the Ukraine. The network of intertwined change processes on different levels cannot be simply classed as either micro or macro nor sufficiently accounted for by deductive analytical frameworks.
