This paper discusses the impact of dialect contact and its connection with identity formation and maintenance in coastal Palestine, and in Jaffa in particular. The studied (Q) variable preserves a community identity sense for Jaffan fugitives in Gaza whilst the broader Jaffan community is experiencing major linguistic change.
