Annotation

This study marks the onset of a pan–South African English dialectology, featuring five cities (Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg, Kimberley, and Port Elizabeth) and four ethnicities (Black, Colored, Indian, and White), via a sole vowel, BATH (or /ɑ:/). Statistical analysis centers on city-ethnicity-gender links.
