Culture is a product of interpersonal interaction, not of intercultural interaction. People are far more alike in their communication than they are diverse across cultures. Interpersonal communication competence is thus the core framework from which to grasp intercultural expertise. A range of maxims of interpersonal communicative competence is listed.
