Annotation

The hypothesis was tested that put-down humor, aimed at outgroup members and pursued by laughter, would enhance in-group cohesion. It raised not experienced, but perceived cohesion, similiarity and safety feelings among (in-)group members. It is debated what conditions are required for put-down humor to raise one’s personal attraction to a group.
