Annotation

The reasons inspiring esp. Moroccans to cite Qur’anic verses and religious lexis in their daily polite greetings, render their firm belief and face-saving efforts for both speaker and hearer. It is rather the pragmatic function than the linguistic expression that defines practice and interpretation of (Moroccan) Arabic politeness strategies.
