Annotation

A focus on agency in theorizing impoliteness enables to consider how recipients do not just solely refer to social norms or (sometimes) perceived speaker intentions in assessing talk or behavior as impolite, but may also use their own agency in explaining the speaker’s actions as abusive or not.
