Annotation

This study shows that a specific case of mock impoliteness (MI)– i.e., jocular mockery – is widely used in two Facebook communities (Spanish and English), when users face boasting. To enhance group rapport, MI is amiably received. Some framing strategies derive from face-to-face interaction, other means are procured by Facebook.
