Using cross-disciplinary data from child development, sociolinguistics, social neuroscience, and virtual reality engineering, it is argued that uncooperative addressee replies can have a systematic and harmful impact on speaker performance at the level of conceptualization (or message), and that this disorganization happens automatically and unknowingly.
