Annotation

Opining that utterance meaning results from interactional processes, the occurrence (or absence, on that score) of planned perlocutionary effects ought to be given more attention, as they directly affect the conditions that define interlocutors' set of viable language choices. Drawing on Damasio’s convergence-divergence zone framework, this paper explores the process whereby certainty communication can cause the targeted perlocutionary effect, which is more likely to happen without evidential markers. The surmised efficiency of this communication mode would be due to the automatic nature of the implied mechanism, which depens upon an interpretive process that may be regarded as recall simulation.
