Annotation

To explain the whole range of language use in modern multilingual urban Stockholm, one needs to reconsider what people agree on as target language (TL) or standard norm, which appears more disparate than presumed. This folk linguistic listener study of young upper secondary Stockholmers’ constructions of linguistic (standard) norm and variation, reveals an important deviation in listener perceptions, especially concerning speech here referred to as migration-related social dialects, possibly denoting that they do not simply strive for a TL equal to the prevailing monolingual norm.
