Annotation

This paper debates how national language (-in education) policy choices in Timor-Leste are handled in adult literacy education. Portuguese and Tetum are recognised in 2002 as the official languages, whilst Indonesian and English are promulgated as working languages. Tetum stands strong and the regional languages appear of educational interest, whilst the position of Portuguese is less strong in education and in teachers' and learners' proficiency and use.
