This paper describes one of the major characteristics of modern multilingualism (M), ravel, via selected issues linked to its role in L2 acquisition, like the genuine concept of M, and M as a social and multidimensional event. Novel findings are presented on M as a holistic process, and on the contexts of multilingual language learning.
