Annotation

This study explores native language preservation and ethnic identity of first-, 1.5-, and second-generation Korean-Americans in the US, via the lenses of multiple identity construction and sociolinguistic theories. Identity and language are considered as dynamic and variable, and tightly related, a relationship defined by social contexts. Attention is paid to identity conflict issues in the actual setting where a pluralist ideology is firmly daunted. The view of English as an international language, and its authority and impact on ethnic identity formation in the US and Korea, are also dealt with.
