Annotation

This paper presents a means of rendering the use of an intercultural idiom in George Eliot's Daniel Deronda as a way of elucidating the character of linguistic borrowing in the framework of dialogical identity. It is then asserted that the characters’ appliance of mixed utterances creates inferences, which enable the surpassing of the monocultural self and generate alternatives of being.
