This article explains how Italian midwives' (re)formulations in prenatal check-up interactions with migrant patients, serve to surmount language barriers (restricted Italian skills) and give sense to medical terms and health problems. They may add to a patient-centred communicative form and a form of midwives’ power, determining terms an meanings of intercultural interaction.
