Annotation

Albeit social media offer novel chances for minority language use and communication, the level to which they diverge from conventional news media needs more research. French and English language ideologies in Canadian news media and on Twitter are compared via a particular case study of an Italian restaurant owner in French-speaking Canada, opposed for employing Italian words on his menu. A corpus-assisted discourse study provides insight on the intricate dynamics of language politics and how they play up on various media platforms. Minoritised groups are under increasing pressure to convert linguistic cultures into English and internationalized, market-driven conditions.
