Interplay between images and cultural allusions can turn illustrations, and particularly book covers, into more than sheer text supplements. The themes, paratextual presentations and covers of an into English translated, US-edited, post-Korean war Korean literature corpus, are ordered into four analytic categories (Modernity, Tradition, Religion and Struggle). The goal is to distinguish the chief image of Korea in this corpus, and comment upon the diverse visions of Korea and the agents concerned with the translation of Korean literature.
