Annotation

Although interviewed bilingual groups who respectively received Spanish- and English-focused elementary education, did not diverge as to real and perceived total competence, there are some dissimilitudes in their use and perceived benefit of bilingualism. Earlier formal immersion in the nondominant language does little to advance everyday bilingualism ('s use and perception) in a situation where bilingualism is historically and culturally rooted, and English prevails in professional milieus.
