This paper argues that the Birther movement rhetoric of constitutional defense depends on racial logics employed in former discourses on foreignness to mark admissible citizenship for the presidency and feature Obama as unreliable. Birther discourses tamper with rationality, increase a White racial state, and nourish fear over a progressively multi-racial and global society.
