Annotation

Centering on how Akan (plural) nouns referring to persons appear in (urban) Ghanaian English, it is argued that code-switching and lexical borrowing are not so clearly identifiable, as many transferred items display either Akan or English plurals and on occasion a mixing up of the two. The shifting plural forms are best accounted for in terms of a style-shift based on Bell's (1999; 2001) Audience Design framework.
