Pre-requests, as other pre-sequences, serve to predict that another action will be generated if a propitious answer is given. They thus function to preserve preference organization. This paper employs service encounter requests to re-explore the evidence for an assay of such expressions as pre-requests and argues that alternative inquiries are more fitting in these requesting activities.
