Police officers interviewing intellectually disabled people who assert sexual abuse and rape, build rapport with the victim yet address their distress without compromising the interview’s impartiality and court admissability. Selected English police force records disclose three practices debated as ways of controlling the ambivalent requirements of rapport and evidence-collection.
