The change from coal to natural gas to fuel electricity production has positive (environmental) and negative (economic) effects for people in the concerned US regions. Media representations of the situation mold how citizens grasp it and reply to it. The findings indicate the interest of nearness in environmental discourse and the need to explore not only what sorts of discourse spread, but also how and to whom.
