This study explores findings from a survey of 1.213 school-age students from grades 1 to 11 in Mainland China. It shows important motivational discrepancies for English as a foreign language learning, dividing middle school pupils from their primary and high school peers. Proposals for future inquiry and classroom teaching are made.
