Iranian Persian speakers use indirect and a blend of direct and indirect strategies more than direct ones in refusals to offers, suggestions, invitations and requests, according to the refusal classification scheme presented by Beebe, Takahashi, and Uliss-Weltz. ‘Reason’ and ‘gratitude’ appear the most frequent ones, returning the act appears as novel strategy.
