Annotation

This study examines Iranian Facebook (FB) users’ compliment reply conduct in same- and cross-gender interactions and similarities with face-to-face interactions. Cyber-feminism may have influenced participants’ choices of fairer language use patterns when answering compliments from the opposite sex, and marginalized groups like Iranian women gain from virtual spaces like FB to claim a linguistic self-identity that is difficult to share publicly in a real life context.
