This study advocates analysis of both book reading and play interactions engaging mothers and their language impaired preschool children, as they present dissimilar occasions for talk and language productivity (as measured in mean length of utterance in morphemes (MLU-m), type token ratio (TTR) and interaction style). Only maternal MLU-m appears to forecast children's expressive language abilities.
